S'pore hospitals focusing on patient wellness

Singapore are making a crucial strategic change in emphasis which is shifting focus from being disease-centric to wellness-centric. This shift would requires hospitals to work closely with the patients' and their families and with other healthcare providers in the community. Every discharged patient has a personal nurse in virtual contact to ensure that the chronic disease is well-managed. Budget is definitely needed for this project and hence implementing it will take years and results will only be seen in the future.

I feel that this strategic change is good for the society. With this change, the patient would have more care and concern from the doctors and nurses, which will definitely allow the patient to feel happier as they know that there is someone who actually care for them. This may also be one of the reason to fight hard with the diseases. Though having a personal nurse to every discharged patient is a good idea, but it will be costly as it will have a lack of nurses in the society and not many people except the rich ones are able to afford such privilege. So i hope that the government would subsidies and lend a helping hand to those needy.
