Simulated terror attack at Resorts World
By Imelda Saad Posted: 26 January 2011 0037 hrs

On Tuesday evening, Singapore authorities simulated a terror attack to test the emergency preparedness of the Home Team and the security team from Resorts World Sentosa, one of the Singapore's newest tourist attractions. It started with a suspicious package in an auditorium that no one realised and soon the smoke filled the room and guests were evacuated. After that, a second parcel exploded outside the theater and three gunmen opened fire and leaving scores injured and dead. This simulated exercise involved 500 Resorts World staff and officers from the various Home Team agencies, including the Special Operations command team. As the integrated resort is new, authorities took the opportunity to familiarise themselves with it. It is their interest to make sure that the IR staff are well trained, well prepared to make sure that in any emergency, they are in their best position to take care of the customers within the resort.

I feel that this simulation is a very good way to prepare Singaporeans that we cannot take things for granted and it is also part of our job to make sure that terrorists are unable to attack us. If every one can do our part, i believe Singapore will still be a safe country. Even if the terrorist attack is real and we are really prepared for this, we are definitely not afraid of it. Since the Resorts World Sentosa is the Singapore's newest tourist attractions and attracts thousands of visitors on a daily basis, i have reasons to believe that terrorists may try to attack there as it is one of the most crowded place in Singapore and most of the tourists know that Singapore is a high security country, the tourists will definitely let their guards there. This is the chance whereby the terrorists would attack here and to prove them wrong. So in order to maintain Singapore as a safe and high security country, every one of us need to do our part. Hence, we should always keep a high alert on suspicious people or package.
